Every...Thing...Gratitude Part II

If you read yesterday's post, how did it sit with you? I see it this way. You read it and bought into it, or you sort of bought into it, or you didn't buy into it at all. Once again, after all, "you don't know my financial situation", right? "How can I be grateful for things not going right financially? I didn't ask for this!"

I want to invite you to do something with me today. I want to invite you to look past the situation, the details, and the circumstances. Think of yourself as a bystander in your own life. You are an observer. Act as if you are watching yourself experience this thing called financial chaos. When you step out of the woods, you start to see the trees for their strength and beauty. You start to see the point in all of this. This isn't about the credit card debt or being behind in retirement savings or fill in the blank. This is about bringing the bigger picture into focus.

Let's go back to our verse from yesterday and focus in on the second part of that verse.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says:

"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." (KJV)

Give thanks in every...thing (not everything - every thing) because this is about God's will for your life. I wrote about dealing with financial fear the other day and mentioned the trifecta of financial hope and confidence. One of those verses is applicable here once again.

Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

God's will is the reason to be grateful. The bigger picture is that God has a will for our life. I believe that He has a bigger financial will for our lives as well. That is a discussion for another time. Sorry, I digressed. Back to God's overall will for our life......IT IS A BIG DEAL! It is such a big deal that it can be unbelievable, scary, exciting, and over our heads all at the same time. He has "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." The Father God Almighty wants that for you and for all of us. It is yours for the taking. I know, sometimes (if we were honest) it is tough to grasp, maybe difficult to believe?

Here is the challenge - at any given time we are connected and plugged into that Will or we are not, or we are half in and half out. You know the drill. We have our substitutes for God (if we were honest). I would suggest that money is, if not the biggest, distraction. So, we look to money for the things that God wants to provide us. In that state, we become disconnected and lose our dependence on God. We become "lost." We get what we get in that situation. Now here we are...what now?

The Opportunity

This is the opportunity to reconnect to God and the seeking of His Will for your life. Here is the opportunity when all seems lost to let God show you another way. He never left your side. You just decided to replace Him for a while. Now, I am not saying that God is about to make you a lottery winner and make all of your problems go away. After all, the ultimate answer to what we interpret as problems is not outside of ourselves (money), it is inside of ourselves, God.

Here is the bottom line - Be Grateful for every...thing. Problems as we interpret them, are the opportunities to connect back to and seek God's Will for our life which is awesome, incredible, and more than we can imagine. That opportunity is something to be Grateful for. Financial problems just bring the opportunity back in sight where we can see it and feel it again. See God in everything and He will just adjust what you are seeing.
